ISS Team Building 2014: Race to FinISSh!
One Saturday morning… My alarm clock was buzzing, urging me out of bed. And then, I remembered ??? today is the day of the ISS Team Building to be held at Papa Kit???s in Liloan! Excitedly, I rushed straight to Skyrise 1 where I had to join and travel with Ms. Divine and the HR team to attend the event.
ISS already had its kick-off celebration way back August 2012. But, this year???s event was totally different because it encouraged us to engage in something we have never done before – strengthen the team ??”Amazing Race” style.
As a rookie in iComm, I???m glad to be a part of this significant occasion. I???m also happy that our department, Marketing, is now an official part of the ISS group.
The mere thought of having an amazing race was enough to send us into a frenzy of excitement. Little did we know there were actually more surprises in store for us!
This year???s ISS Team Building at Papa Kit???s is truly a 17km verdant ???adventure paradise??? in Silot Bay, north of Cebu.
We fell in love with the place that we enjoyed taking selfies and groupie shots all day long!
The management and staff of Sales composed of five teams: Early Shift, Mid-shift, 2 Afternoon shift teams and Night shift, iDirect, Tech Admin, Shipping, Parts, Marketing as well as the HR team were all present and accounted for the team building.
After the early morning snacks of spaghetti, bread and iced tea, the program officially started.
I was tasked to host together with Poca from the Sales team.
Both of us were obliged to join the race. So, later on, we gave the floor to Sir Benson, our Senior Sales Manager, to deliver his opening remarks; then, to the rest of our managers who also acted as race marshals.
Best in Yell
We grouped ourselves into eight teams and then chose a color and a name to represent our teams. The 8 Amazing race teams were: Silver Team Bangan (my team), Gold Eagle, Yellow Tundan, Red Velvet, Purple Panis, Green Warriors, Blue Tirador and Pink Power.
We were given 5 minutes to prepare our own yells and present them in front of everyone.
The result? Green Warriors reaped the ???Best in Yell Award??? because of their high-powered performance and entertaining yells!
Let the Race begin!
The time has come when we have to work together with our respective teams to solve clues, find checkpoints and complete mental and physical challenges.
Our first clue:
???Stop LOUNGING around and SWIM into action.
Go to a place where you found childhood satisfaction.???
Fresh catch of the day
???Give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day; teach him how to fish, and he’ll eat for a lifetime.”
Here we had to run to the Fishing Lagoon near the entrance and go fishing! After we were instructed to take a photo with our prized catch, shout out loud “Fish Tayo” with a “peace” hand sign, we then moved to the next task.
Feel the rush
???Wear your Amazing Lei.
Make your way through the Jungle Obstacle Course Relay:
Hanging Bridge, Spider Web, Wire Walk, Tsunami Walk.???
Everyone was out of breath after running a few kilometers from the fishing lagoon to the Jungle Obstacle course. Two of my teammates dared this challenge where they squealed in terror and delight as the hanging bridge and tsunami walk swayed wildly for every move they made.
The detour task
???You are on your way to winning this race.
Hopefully this detour won’t slow your pace.???
In this challenge, we had to count all the climbing holds on the wall. We???re happy that our team did it correctly in just one attempt.
One step closer
Zip your way to the Finish Line.
Capture the moment using your smart phone and monopod.
I was the one who dared the zip line challenge. I took a video of myself while I was being up in the air and moving at a high speed. However, instead of safely going to the base, I came to a halt in the middle of that 400 meters zip trip. When I looked down, all I can see was a huge body of water, which they said it was 60 feet under from my location. I was stranded for nearly five minutes before the staff of Papa Kit???s successfully pulled me down to the end of the line.
Finally, we???re one step closer to the finish line!
After accomplishing the task, our team geared up for the final challenge ??? to literally race to finish!
Crossing the finish line
???Make your way with a hungry tummy.
Be the first team to win the ISS Amazing Race!???
And the first team to arrive at the final pit stop was our team, the Silver Teambangan!
Bambam, Billy, Jacqueline, Joylyn, Jenelyn and I crossed the finish line as this year???s ISS Amazing Race Champions!
More than 5 adventures in a row could really take a toll on our tummies. So it???s time to treat ourselves with a sumptuous lunch. Lechon baboy stuffed with lechon manok, pork barbeque, fried chicken, anyone?
The highlight of the event was the speech of Mr. Rob Stone, the CEO of IBC Japan. We felt lucky that he took the time to attend our event. ??Mr. Rob Stone talked about the past of ISS and how it links to the present operations and the vision that he has for the future.
The program was capped off with more team building activities spearheaded by Sir Minoy, our ISS Sales Director. Our team building taught us several lessons that we can incorporate to our work. We believe that it???s not how far we go, but what happens along the way. It was truly an epic experience! We are looking forward to ISS Team Building 2015!
?? ?? ?????At first, we were the first.
?? ?? Second, we were the second.
?? ??Lastly, we were the last.
?? ??But we didn???t have regrets
?? because we enjoyed the
?? ?? ?????Making it happen and loving
?? ?? ??every minute of it ??? these are
?? ?? the goals that build up solid
?? ?? teamwork.?????
?? ?????A winning attitude must always
?? ??be in our hearts and minds regardless
?? ??if we started as underdogs or if we stay
?? ??ahead of the competition.?????
?? ?? ???Everyone enjoyed the race
?? ?? ??and they want to do it again.
?? ?? Hopefully we???ll make it an
?? ?? annual event.???
